OPEN MIND Takes Rough Machining To The MAXX at MACH 2012
7 February 2012
MACH 2012 will witness a complete evolution in CAM software when Open Mind Technologies gives its MACH debut to its remarkable new hyperMAXX roughing module that has been fully integrated into hyperMILL. On stand 4101, the new module will demonstrate how it delivers optimal milling paths and maximum material removal to minimise machining times. Already proving a resounding success in the marketplace, hyperMAXX can improve productivity by up to 600% when machining 5-axis components.
hyperMAXX performs climb milling with optimised cutting conditions, thus allowing a large volume of material to be removed very efficiently with high process stability. The new module is based on technology that enables dynamic feed rate adjustment to existing cutting conditions. The fully automated dynamic feed rate and in-feed adjustment facilitate fast and gentle climb milling to deliver perfect cutting conditions that enhance surface finishes as well as productivity performance.
The new hyperMAXX high-performance roughing module is optional and it generates ideally distributed 3D milling paths. Removing large volumes of material efficiently and reliably, hyperMAXX reduces the wear and tear on both the machine tool and cutting tools. Thanks to dynamically adjusting the feed rate, hyperMAXX maximises the machining speed, rather than using the feed rate settings that are required for a corner or other worst condition situations, resulting in shorter production cycles.
Utilising its climb milling mode, hyperMAXX distributes even loads on the tools and machine, resulting in increased service life. Automatic rounding of the tool paths in the event of abrupt directional changes further help to ease the wear and tear of the machine. The prevention of extreme tool movements and sharp edges are the basis for further enhancing surface quality.
The high performance of hyperMAXX is made possible by intelligent automated functions, such as a feature that accounts for the material type and it dynamically optimises both the feed rate and in-feed during 3D arbitrary stock roughing. This option is seamlessly integrated with hyperMILL’s roughing procedure to simplify the learning and implementation.
As well as giving hyperMAXX its MACH debut, Open Mind will also be giving its MACH premiere to the new 5-Axis Contour Offset Roughing and Finishing feature that has also been incorporated into hyperMILL. With complex 5-axis machining and the processing of curved surfaces, almost 90% of all CAM strategies are based on the assumption of the two main orientations, the tool axis (Z-axis) and the standard axis perpendicular to it. With 5-axis contour offset roughing, Open Mind breaks new barriers with a module that understands we do not all work in a 'flat' world.
Many curved parts could be machined by way of 5-axis machining but the CAM process consists of multiple jobs or program steps, resulting in lengthy programming times. OPEN MIND is the first CAM manufacturer to develop a strategy specifically for 5-axis contour offset machining that simply turns the curved surface into the standard surface, allowing the tool to work at any point at an angle of 90 degrees.
