ATA Launches New Anti-Vibration Straight Grinder at MACH

At MACH 2012 on Stand 4634J, the ATA Group will be launching its new SMD portable pneumatic hand grinder for all your hand held grinding applications. As a market leading manufacturer of pneumatic hand held grinders, specialist abrasives and carbide burrs, ATA has worked closely with customers and conducted extensive R&D to deliver a grinder that consumes up to 50% less compressed air and has increased power levels with remarkable vibration damping.

The new SMD straight grinder supersedes its predecessor with a host of new attributes that will astonish end users with its tremendous levels of quality, performance and productivity. Using less compressed air than competitor models, the new SMD grinder could typically save the end user up to £40 per tool for every 100 hours of use, which could equate to over £500 per annum when compared to alternate products. This potential saving is the result of the all new motor, exhaust and throttle systems that have increased the power to weight ratio whilst at the same time reducing air consumption.

Available in two models, the SMD25LR and the SMD18LR are rated with a speed of 25,000rpm and 18,000rpm respectively. The all new design of the SMD’s throttle not only contributes to the increased power levels of the SMD by significantly increasing airflow, but also provides users with tremendous levels of control. In fact, the innovative design of the SMD’s throttle provides operators with a slow start facility which significantly reduces the risk of causing damage to both consumable and work piece when a grinding process is begun.

The challenge of reducing noise and quickly re-directing used compressed air away from the operator has been taken on by the all new exhaust system which also incorporates a highly flexible and lightweight overhose.

To improve accuracy and deliver greater run-out consistency, ATA has also developed a new collet, cap-nut and chuck design for the SMD series of grinders.

An innovative development to the rear suspension of the SMD range has meant that in comparison to its predecessor, the new range has a reduced number of internal components. From a service perspective, this reduction in components simplifies the whole disassembly and reassembly operation, to ensure that servicing can be conducted with speed and efficiency.

Operator comfort has remained at the forefront of the design innovations introduced into the SMD grinders. An aesthetically pleasing moulded body greatly improves grip on the tool but additionally it reduces the contact area with the aluminium body and insulates the operator’s hands from the cold temperatures that are so common with pneumatic grinders. Even the trigger has undergone a re-design so that now its ergonomic shape is significantly more comfortable to operate.
