Gripping Technology Has a New Face

At the recent Automatica 2012 exhibition, SCHUNK, the expert for clamping technology and gripping systems announced that former Arsenal & Germany goalkeeper, Jens Lehmann is its new brand ambassador. At the leading International Trade Fair for automation, assembly, robotics and vision systems, Jens Lehmann entertained show visitors by signing autographs, taking photos, playing football and participating in a combined technology-goalkeeper discussion with Sky TV's German football presenter Jessica Kastrop.

During the round discussion, Jens Lehmann stated that good hands decide upon success. In the field of automation, the same applies as precise gripping and safe holding are the key disciplines in modern production automation. Success, whether it be in soccer or in business and automation, have many parallels and at Automatica, this was made clear by a number of key speakers from the podium on the SCHUNK Stand. Key speakers included SCHUNK CEO Henrik A. Schunk, Fanuc’s European President, Mr Olaf Gehrels, SEW-Eurodrive Board Member and Plant Manager Dr.-Ing. Markus Klaiber and Thomas Hähn, the CEO of Hahn Automation.

The keynote speakers highlighted that beside sophisticated technical solutions; com-mitment, passion and cohesion within a team decide on a company’s success. The presentations were followed by a discussion round whereby Jens Lehmann discussed how soccer and the field of automation can share valuable lessons and experiences. This was followed by a discussion with Jochen A. Rotthaus, CEO of soccer club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who emphasized that professionalism and economics in sports and business have many parallels.

Mr Rotthaus also mentioned the values of passion, loyalty and appreciation. Whilst SCHUNK supports these key competences, the company repeatedly emphasized how important the human element is regarding technological success. A technological success that noted more than 25 new benchmark products being unveiled by SCHUNK at Europe's leading automation event.
