ITC Takes Aluminium Machining To Next Level With New Generation of Cutters
4 March 2014
With an already formidable line of aluminium end mills in its armoury, Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC) has added to its product range with the launch of the new 3091 Cyber Series range of three flute end mills. The long shank end mill line has been created to give the end user greater reach for machining cavities and difficult to access surfaces whilst delivering maximum rigidity for high material removal rates.
The new 3091 Series is the result of extensive R&D and testing at ITC's Tamworth manufacturing facility that now gives the marketplace an extremely high performance end milling line. With a straight shank, right hand helix with centre cutting and a short flute length, the geometry has been optimally designed for high speed and high feed cutting on aluminium and non-ferrous materials.
This radical flute geometry has undergone extensive testing to deliver remarkable swarf clearance and excellent surface finishes. In addition, the 3091 Series is manufactured from an ultra wear resistant micro grain carbide that combines with the short flute length to deliver maximum rigidity that further enhances surface finishes. With three end teeth that offer centre cutting, the 3091 Series provides excellent plunging and ramping capabilities.
The 3091 Cyber Series is available with either a square end geometry or with a corner radius to prolong tool life and provide profile and cavity machining capabilities. The square end line is available in 3, 4, 5 and 6mm diameters with a 6mm shank diameter and further diameters that include 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20mm diameters with matching shank diameters for increased rigidity. The 3, 4 and 5mm diameter cutters have an overall length of 75mm whilst the 6, 8, 10 and 12mm diameters offer an overall length of 100mm and the remaining 16 &20mm diameters have a length of 150mm. The 3091 line has a length of cut that ranges from 4.5 to 30mm with a reach of 12mm to 65mm depending upon the diameter selected.
The 3091 Series with a corner radius is available with dimensions identical to that of the square end series. The 3, 4 and 5mm diameter cutters offer a corner radius of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1mm whilst the 6, 8, 10 and 12mm cutters offer these radii as well as 1.5 and 2mm radii. The 16 and 20mm diameter cutters are ideal for profile machining with corner radius options of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4 and 5mm.
