Multi-Purpose End Mills from ITC
9 October 2013
Now available in the new Widia Slimline Catalogue from Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC) is the general purpose Hanita 6606 Series of end mills for roughing operations. The innovative all-rounder from ITC is ideal for high stock removal machining of hard materials at low feeds.
As the UK agent for Widia, ITC is offering this innovative 6606 range of HSS-M42 end mills that are TiAlN coated for machine shops requiring a high performance end mill that delivers versatility for machining a wide range of materials whilst providing exceptional performance parameters. The Widia Hanita 6606 Series is ideal for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron and high temperature alloys, giving end users sufficient versatility to reduce tooling inventory and the associated costs by introducing this multi-purpose range.
The Widia Hanita 6606 Series is available in 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 25mm diameters with an identical shank diameter to enhance the rigidity of the cutters. This shank diameter combined with optimised cutting lengths from 13 to 45mm provides excellent rigidity that gives the twofold benefit of outstanding surface finishes and improved tool life when conducting roughing operations. To further improve tool life when rough machining, the 6606 Series incorporates a chamfered corner that eliminates the potential for edge chipping and excessive wear that is commonplace with many square end cutting tools. The corner chamfer from 0.35 to 0.5mm depending upon cutter diameter, eradicates the issue of sudden tool breakages that are unwelcome for manufacturers conducting production runs or machining parts with considerable cycle times.
Ideal for ripping, slotting, side milling and cavity machining as well as general purpose milling, the Widia Hanita 6606 Series has been geometrically developed to provide extended tool life whilst rough machining. For small diameters from 6 to 8mm the 6606 is available with three flutes whilst end mills from 10 to 20mm are available with four flutes. Additionally, the largest cutter with a 25mm diameter is offered with 5 flutes. The ideal number of cutting edges has been implemented by development engineers at Widia to improve material removal rates and reduce cutting forces when rough machining. The density of the cutting edges improves machining performance when rough cutting. Furthermore, the 30 degree angle of the polished flutes enhance removal rates and efficiently evacuate swarf from the cutting area.
