SCHUNK Generates Huge Success from Southern Manufacturing 2017

As a global competence leader for gripping systems and clamping technology, SCHUNK has once again witnessed significant success at a UK manufacturing exhibition with visitors to the recent Southern Manufacturing exhibition making unprecedented levels of enquiries for Schunk products. At the FIVE Farnborough event, the family owned company generated considerable crowds for a number of products receiving their UK exhibition debut.

As part of the portfolio of new product launches, SCHUNK introduced the new TENDO Slim 4ax hydraulic expansion toolholder to UK exhibition visitors for the first time. Incorporating the proven qualities of SCHUNK hydraulic expansion technology, it is now possible to combine the complete outside geometry of heat shrinking mountings according to DIN 69882-8 with remarkably slim precision mounting. Primarily designed for axial operations, the new TENDO Slim 4ax is ideal for milling close to interfering contours, countersinking and reaming on 5-axis machining centers. As with every SCHUNK TENDO hydraulic expansion toolholder, the SCHUNK TENDO Slim 4ax also has permanently high run-out accuracies, perfect vibration damping, and a fast tool change with a wrench.

From the workholding stable, SCHUNK used Southern Manufacturing to reinforce the benefits of its exceptional new universal SCHUNK ROTA NCX power chuck. This new power chuck can replace conventional lathe chucks without a quick jaw change system 1:1 without any conversion on the machine and without an adapter. The new system minimises the effort for set-up by up to 80%, extending machine running times significantly. Within 60 seconds, a new jaw set is retrofitted with a repeat accuracy of 0.02mm.

The ROTA NCX is suitable for finishing and volume metal cutting. For ensuring maximum operational safety, it is equipped with a jaw locking system and a jaw presence monitoring. The universal SCHUNK ROTA NCX chuck is available in the sizes 165, 215, 260, and 315 with a through-hole diameter of 53 to 106mm and a clamping force from 55 to 155kN. It can be used for I.D. and O.D. clamping.

Also attracting the crowds at the Southern Manufacturing Show with its UK exhibition debut was the new PGN-plus permanent gripper. The unique permanent lubrication of this system provides a faster and more even distribution of the lubricant, even with short strokes. The complete contour of the patented multi-tooth guidance is equipped with grease pockets, which ensures a continuous supply of lubricant. This principle of the minimal quantity lubrication increases the already great life span of the SCHUNK best sellers.

The SCHUNK PGN-plus seamlessly integrates into the PGN-plus family. Nearly the whole range of possible automatic applications can be process-reliably controlled with the universal gripper. This covers applications from machine/system loading in the metal cutting industry and foundries to assembly applications in the automotive and electrical industry through to delicate handling tasks in the medical and pharmaceutical industry. The PGN-plus family has been successfully used in applications with high temperatures, pollution and aggressive media as well as in clean rooms and explosive environments.
