Universal high-performance lathe chucks
1 July 2013
The ROTA NCD wedge bar power chuck from SCHUNK is re-nowned for its versatility. It is used for clamping small diameters as quickly and precisely as it does large diameters. Instead of changing lathe chucks and collet chucks, which can be a tedious task, only the top jaws of the ROTA NCD have to be changed against special collet jaws. This minimizes set-up times and significantly improves productivity.
The most striking feature of the ROTA NCD is its large through-hole, which allows machining of a wide range of different bar diameters. For this type of application, SCHUNK has developed and patented collet jaws that interlock at the front with the base jaws. This therefore avoids the lift-up of the chuck jaws. As small bar diameters can also be precisely machined with lathe chucks, users save valuable time and avoid the expense of additional special lathe chucks.
Combined with common top jaws, many versions for I.D. and O.D. clamping can be designed. This allows users to choose between metric or imperial serration. A continuous T-slot in the base jaws allow extremely accurate positioning of the top jaws. In order to fulfill the increasing demand in quality, precision and performance of turning operations, the lathe chuck is equipped with a particularly long base jaw guidance. This optimally supports the chuck jaws. The functional parts are hardened and ground on all sides to ensure continuously high run-out and repeat accuracy. High speeds can also be achieved with Schunk's wedge bar system for force transmission.
