Vollmer Stays Sharp at GrindTec 2012 With 3 New Innovations

At the recent GrindTec 2012 trade fair in Augsburg, Germany; Vollmer, the specialist in grinding and eroding machines gave its exhibition premiere to three new machine innovations. At the event, the Vollmer CB 200, CM 300 and CMF 300 machines were launched to demonstrate the company's expertise in grinding carbide-tipped bandsaws and circular saws for the metal industry.

Extremely well received at the event, the trio of the CB 200, CM 300 and CMF 300 are perfectly suited for efficient metal machining. The CB 200 can be used to sharpen the tooth faces and tooth tops of carbide-tipped bandsaw blades for the processing of aluminium, plastic, steel or cast iron in a more precise manner. As the CB 400’s 'little' brother, it boasts an attractive price-performance ratio and is ideally suited for the production of carbide bandsaws, which are widely used in the construction and metal-processing industries. This price/performance ratio was noted by show visitors that were very interested in the potential applications for the CB200.

Vollmer also introduced the CM 300 and the CMF 300. The two fully-automatic sharpening machines can be used to sharpen carbide-tipped circular saw blades up to a diameter of 1440mm. With nine CNC-controlled axes, the CM 300 can machine cutting edges at tooth faces and tops in one set-up and the CMF 300 can do the same for tooth sides. Saw manufacturers can use the new Vollmer sharpening machines, with their respective handling systems and loading pallets in automatic, round-the-clock operations. This exceptional level of automation delivered considerable leads and interest from exhibition visitors.

Also receiving plaudits at the event was Vollmer’s various sharpening and eroding machines such as the QXD 200 that can measure, sharpen, erode and polish PCD tools (polycrystalline diamond) in a single clamping operation. With the ExLevel software, the QXD 200 can simulate the production process of PCD drilling tools three dimensionally. It can then use a combination process to measure, erode, grind and polish them. An automatic polishing process for PCD milling tools has also been integrated into this general-purpose machine. It can be used to automatically erode and polish face-milling cutters, groove cutters, drill and groove milling cutters and other metal-cutting tools in large batches.

Vollmer’s technological highlights were also accompanied at the GrindTec show by a comprehensive package of services that cover everything from consultation, training and financing to the maintenance and servicing of all of its sharpening and eroding machines. This level of support that is unparalleled in the industry undoubtedly gave stand visitors confidence in the Vollmer brand and the technologies available.
